As part of Temasek’s 40th Anniversary series of community events, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will be performing ‘Sharing the Journey. At home with the classics’ at three neighbourhood venues on August 1, 2 and 3.

Associate Conductor Jason Lai and the SSO invites the public on a musical journey to experience a diversity of popular classics including Johann Strauss II’s Voices of Spring and Bizet’s Carmen Suite, and music from blockbusters such as Star Wars and West Side Story. They will also perform Kelly Tang’s Sketches of Singapore, featuring some best-loved local melodies such as Di Tanjong Katong and Rasa Sayang.

Mr Lee Theng Kiat, President of Temasek, said, “We are 40 this year, and would like to thank Singaporeans as well as many other friends around the world for their wonderful support and encouragement, as we invest both in Singapore and in what many view as an emerging Asia. We are very happy to note that the SSO is 35 years old this year, and that the SSO itself has also come very far to be recognised as one of the promising young orchestras in the world today. Together, Temasek and SSO have shared a history of growing with Singapore. We at Temasek are very privileged to have the opportunity to partner the SSO to bring a most interesting selection of music to our heartlands to share with young and old alike, from blockbuster favourites to timeless classics.”

“We are very happy to partner Temasek in bringing good music to Singaporeans. On this special occasion of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Temasek, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra has prepared a specially selected programme of well-known classical and local tunes which can be enjoyed by Singaporeans of all ages. We hope that, through these concerts, we can bring the joy of music to many lives, and do our part to build a gracious home in Singapore,” said Chng Kai Jin, SSO’s General Manager.

The ‘Sharing the Journey. At home with the classics’ series has been designed to be highly interactive. Apart from learning more about the music from Jason Lai, the audience can meet with accomplished SSO musicians over complimentary refreshments after the performance.

Additionally, a pre-concert talk will be conducted at 7pm on August 1 at the Tay Eng Soon Convention Centre, Auditorium Level 4, ITE College Central [*Open to ticket holders only.]
