Pique your appetite with any of the mouth-watering items in the soup list, from a chunky seafood bouillabaisse to a piquant roasted tomato soup. A hero from this section is The Green Knight ($8); a light zucchini soup topped with crispy seaweed, croutons and a generous drizzling of cream for added richness.

The salad and light bites are hearty meals on their own, and make great sharing dishes too. The Pork Terrine ($15) comprises two generous slabs flavored with herbs and spices, accompanied by a side of walnut salad and slices of warm brioche baked fresh daily. Other salad options include The Orange Octopus Salad, The Rainbow Salad and The Emperor’s Choice – JBM’s own version of the Caesar Salad.

Those who love a good French Grenouilles will relish Lilí Froggy ($24) – lightly seasoned frog legs with salt and pepper, a quick sear in the pan with garlic, onion and chives, and then served atop a bed of butter lettuce. This dish is made complete by a mini cocotte of handmade mushroom-filled ravioli steeped in veal jus.

It is all in the name with A Big Bowl O’Mussels ($14); a brimming bowl of plump and succulent New Zealand Blue Lip mussels cooked in a white wine, garlic and seafood broth. Other enticing bites include Earn Your Wings, barbecued chicken wings with a secret recipe sauce; and A Big Plate O’Seafood, a seafood platter consisting soft shell crab, calamari and prawns.

The tantalizing repertoire of main courses at JBM includes highlights such as the Beef Outside The Cubes ($24) and Sassy Cassoulet. The former is a scrumptious combination of grain-fed beef tenderloin, cut into cubes, grilled medium-rare and tossed in a sauce choc-a-bloc with a variety of mushrooms and served with a choice of mash or fries. The Sassy Cassoulet ($32) is a French-style stew featuring white beans and a medley of seafood such as calamari, prawns, clams, mussels, scallops and lobster ñ all slow-cooked in the oven for a luscious sweetness. Other great pickings include JBM Prince of Pepper; perfectly grilled US tenderloin with a pepper crust; JBM Ling Duck; pasta and vegetables tossed in a pink sauce topped with slices of smoked duck; and The Golden Hen, half spring chicken roasted with garlic and served with buttered sauteed potatoes.
