Eggs & Berries, Berry Unsatisfying

Scouring Singapore for new haunts and hangouts led us to Eggs & Berries at Westgate. Thanks to JEM making headlines, Jurong East (lovingly known as the armpit of the West) is now infamous. Eggs & Berries was a less than pleasant experience.

The thought of not needing to queue, coupled with our disastrous battle with the insatiable sweet tooth monster, we found ourselves seated 3 minutes later. Considering the rave reviews on Hungrygowhere, Burpple and numerous blogs, Eggs & Berries is surprisingly as empty as an MRT on at 5:30 am weekday.

Service was slow, naturally, because it was off peak period. There was only one kitchen staff and he was kept occupied not with orders, but with food in his mouth. We thought he was conducting a taste test on our food. But we haven’t ordered.

Mango Tango

Mango Tango Pancakes
Stacked to perfection, it’s only Instagram worthy. It’s definitely not something you’d want to dance about. The pancakes have no buttermilk nor a hint of vanilla. Its texture is like semi-thawed frozen pizza. Nice and warm on the outside, undercooked on the inside. The only thing worse than using slightly ripe mangoes is replacing macadamia with almonds.

Berries Special

Berries Special
Despite the name and the gorgeous presentation, it’s nothing unique. The waffles were sickly; yellow, soft and bland. We couldn’t get through half of it without drowning it in maple syrup.
Verdict: This put us off trying their mains. But as for pancakes, you’d find us at MacDonald’s. Waffles? Rest assured, you’ll be the first to know if we find something Wafflelicious!
