22 November 2012, Singapore – You know the Korean Wave hit a new high when we have more than one Korean fried chicken outlet popping up in tiny Singapore. Newly opened NeNe Chicken joins the many Korean fried chicken outlets in Singapore, but which one is our favorite? The Metropolitant team made our resident Fried Chicken lover take the ultimate Korean fried chicken blind taste test to find out if he can differentiate them and pick the best amongst them.

Kko Kko Nara
Location: #01-01, 57 Tras Street

MT: This is either BBQ Chicken or Kko Kko Nara. The meat is chunkier and the meat at times can be a tad dry at times. The flavor of the batter is pretty well balanced and not too salty or spicy for the different variety. On some pieces the sauce is a little too much making the chicken less crispy on the outside.

4 Fingers Crispy Chicken
Location: #B4-06A, ION Orchard

MT: I’m sure this is 4 Fingers! The kick of the chili comes later after you take a few bites. Crispy on the outside, moist and tender inside. Definitely one of my favorites! My only complain is the fried chicken don’t really have much meat on them.

Chicken Up
Location: #01-01, 48 Tanjong Pagar Road

MT: Eh? KFC is Korean meh? Wait, this one confirm must be Chicken Up. All I can say you cant really go wrong with fresh chicken meat and great batter. Tasty but not outstanding in my opinion.

NeNe Chicken
Location: 1 Vista Exchange Green, Star Vista #01-24

MT: The thickness of the batter feels like BBQ Chicken. This might be BBQ Chicken or NeNe Chicken. The the batter is slightly thicker and it smells really good. I enjoy the crispy outside of the chicken more than the meat inside. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Bonchon Chicken
Location: 201 Victoria Street, #01-11 Bugis+

MT: The skin is crispy and I like the sauce on the outside. The skin seems to fall of a little too easily, but the chicken meat is tender and moist. However, I did find the different part of the meat can be a little too salty. This is probably due to uneven seasoning. Honestly, I bet this is from Chicken Up.

BBQ Chicken
Location: #B1-04/05, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard

MT: I really cannot tell which one this is. The batter is a tad salty and the chicken meat seems dry. 2 bites and I am moving on to the next plate.

Woori Nara
Location: 19 Lorong Kilat #01-02

MT: You sneaky people, did you sneak in some home cooked fried chicken for this test?!

We are pretty impressed with our chicken expert being able to identify most of the fried chicken. So which one is his favorite piece of fried poultry? And he announced the winner of our first ever Korean Fried Chicken Blind Taste Test is 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken .

So head down and chow down some fried chicken today!

Note: This is an incognito tasting. (Cost of the meal is paid by the reviewer)
