Metropolitant’s Top Anime Of 2013 – Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人

28 November 2013, Singapore – Time flies and we’ve watch an insane amount of great anime this year before the entire team decides which is the deserving champion of 2013. Last year’s winner was Another アナザー and this year’s winner is no other than the award winning Attack on Titan 進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin)

This anime is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The series began serialization in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on September 9, 2009, and has been collected into 11 tankōbon volumes as of August 9, 2013. It is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. The story centers on Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert, whose lives are changed forever after the appearance of a colossal titan brings about the destruction of their home town and the death of Eren’s mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls. The anime adaptation produced by Wit Studio and Production I.G aired in Japan on MBS between April and September 2013.

The release of the anime also saw a boost in the series’ popularity with several writers receiving critical acclaim for its atmosphere and story.The manga series has become a commercial success, selling over 20 million volumes as of mid-2013.
