Metropolitant’s Staycation – PARKROYAL On Kitchener Road

Parkroyal-on-Kitchener-Road-4

The Metropolitant team embarks on a series of staycations to find our which of the local hotels you should stay when you want to be a tourist in your own country, or simply to spend a night away from home. To kick off the series, we chose PARKROYAL On Kitchener Road.

The hotel is conveniently located on 181 Kitchener Road. Near to Mustafa Center, which is 24 hours and Swee Choon, our favorite dim sum place. This was our second visit as we went incognito months ago, but we were disappointed by how long they took to check us in. Putting that behind, we went back the second time this month!

We booked the Deluxe Room(not sponsored), but the hotel’s PR was so nice to offer the Club Benefits for us. Unfortunately, we were late with our check in and we almost missed the refreshment timing(6pm – 7.30pm) because the keycard they gave us didn’t let us access the lounge. We had to head downstairs and requested for another keycard before we were able to enter the lounge. The lounge offers a nice respite for breakfast as it was very very crowded in the morning. And the fact that we were able to check out in the club lounge made our stay way better!

The rooms were clean and spacious, and comes with a bath tub!  Well equipped with amenities and high-speed wifi, we settled in quickly.  After supper and some shopping at Mustafa Center, we headed back to the room to rest. But something wasn’t quite right with the room! The airconditioning didn’t seem to be working (room 1812).

By the time we realized the aircon was taking too long to work,  we were too tired from the day’s activities and to sleep. Sadly, we woke up a few times in the night as it was way too warm. Changing the room wasn’t an option as it was already 3am and it was just too much of a hassle.

As the room comes with complimentary breakfast, we headed down to Spice Brasserie for breakfast. The local fare was peppered with many Indian cuisines. Looking around us, the location and the guest, this was to please the majority of their clientele. As it was really a little too crowded for comfort, we headed to the Club Lounge for the breakfast and checked out from the hotel.

What we felt: If you are looking for a romantic room with your other half, this will not be the choice of your staycation. You are definitely not impressing your date with the room or the breakfast spread. However, if you have Indian friends looking for a convenient location to stay, this might just be the perfect property for you!

Stay tuned as we are going incognito to check out more hotels and see how they really fare to the locals!
