Hotel Jen, the newest brand in the Shangri-La Group, introduces its “Leave Boring Behind” positioning across all its properties. Catering to the urban adventurer in all of us, Hotel Jen looks to sate the wanderlust that every traveller has, both by encouraging guests to explore the city, but also by bringing elements of the city into the hotel.
Four passion points underpin this new brand direction and span across after-dark activities (After Hours), authentic local experiences (Native Rituals), cuisine (Get.Set.Eat.) and art (Jen Why Art). Experiential programmes based on these passion points will be gradually rolled out across all Hotel Jens over the next months.

“Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts launched Hotel Jen two years ago to cater to curious travellers who are passionate about discovering new places, cultures and experiences,” said Marisa Aranha, vice president of sales and marketing for Hotel Jen. “Today, more people want to immerse themselves in a destination when they travel and, as hosts, we want to help them leave boring behind by uncovering lesser known insights and experiences.”

Hor Jiak! Food Promotion
In conjunction with this launch, Hotel Jen chefs have created five “hor jiak” – which means “tasty” in the Hokkien language – dishes inspired by popular local food in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The Hor Jiak! highlights include:

Chilli Crab Fondue / Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore – Ah Hoi’s Kitchen’s signature chilli crab served in a bread bowl, offering a fun yet practical take on this iconic local dish.

hotel-jen-orchardgateway-singapore-laksa-lemak-singapura

Laksa Lemak Singapura / Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore – An alternative
take on a classic Peranakan dish in Singapore, the wok-fried rice is infused with the
spicy aromatic laksa broth.

Laksa Johor Slider / Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor – Inspired by Johor’s modern
founder’s visit to Italy in the 19th century, Laksa Johor is prepared with spaghetti. This
mini burger rendition with crispy spaghetti “buns” offers a fun take on this popular dish.
 Smoked Pulled Lamb Pongteh / Hotel Jen Penang – Chicken or pork pongteh is a
classic Peranakan dish in Penang. This smoked lamb rendition is inspired by the hearty
barbecues in Southern America.

hotel-jen-manila-ginataang-turon

Ginataang Turon / Hotel Jen Manila – People in the Philippines have a penchant for
sweet desserts. This treat combines two popular Filipino mid-day snacks: Ginataang halo-halo (glutinous rice balls, tubers and tapioca pearls in coconut milk) and turon (banana fritters).

The Hor Jiak! promotion will be available at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway and Hotel Jen Tanglin from 14 November to 11 December 2016 at Makan@Jen and J65 restaurants respectively.
