The Chop House is a new gastro-bar located at VivoCity that showcases classic favourites with creative flair as well as a wide range of beers on tap and bottled craft brews. The Chop House is also the first in Singapore and Asia to feature state-of-the-art Self Tap Beer concept from USA and a uniquely designed cold keg room for its drafts.
Noel Emmanuel, Director of Operations of Wooloomooloo Group, “We look at ourselves as a gastro-bar because we place equal importance and emphasis on our specially curated beers and cocktails as we do our food offerings.”
A must-have is the homemade Mussel Soup ($10). A highlight here, it is made with a thick creamy broth choc-a-bloc with New Zealand green-lipped mussels and a touch of sour cream for added richness. Quesadillas ($15) at The Chop House deserves mention as a must-have light bite. Perfectly grilled tortilla shells are filled with a choice of minced chicken or beef, melted Jack cheddarand served with sour cream, homemade salsa and guacamole.
A crowd pleaser at The Chop House is the mega 4-kg Beef Shank Lollipop ($140). Ideal for at least four to five hungry stomachs, this fall-off-the-bone meaty shank is braised in a delectable brownsauce and accompanied by asparagus spears, cherry tomatoes and tater tots.
The Chop House has a noteworthy selection of handmade burgers. There are five to choose from and these run the gamut from beef, chicken and pork burgers. Chomp down on the hearty Chop House Pork Burger ($22) – a thick minced pork patty flavoured with ginger, chilli and coriander and served with applewood smoked bacon and pickles. The Bacon, Guacamole and Chicken Burger ($18) and the Patty Melt Beef Burger ($20) are also stalwart choices here.
A welcome grill section highlights two-to-share plates with selections such as the Mixed Grill Platter ($48) comprising two plump milk-fed lamb cutlets, beef tenderloin, lamb and pork sausages and grilled tomatoes on a hot platter. Other platters include US Baby Back Ribs ($38) and the Italian-style Braised Short Ribs ($40). Relish a thick-cut Berkshire Pork Chop ($32) redolent with aMongolian glaze of hoisin and black bean chilli sauce. The caramelised edges of the grilled chop complement the full flavoured meat perfectly. This is served with a twice-baked potato and fresh watercress.
SelfTap Beer
Tapping on this system, the Chop House is also the first in this region to introduce SelfTap stations. A total of five taps are located in and around the gastro-bar where customers are able to pull pints at their leisure. The attractiveness of this is that customers are charged by the millilitres instead of by the pint and depending on what part of the day it is utilised; prices are based on regular or happy hour charges.
Step 1: Customers purchase a stored value card from the cashier for $5 and top up the card with a value of their choice.
Step 2: Tap the card against the SelfTap reader before pulling their own pint. The appropriate value isdeducted from the card.
Step 3: Top-up card at the cashier when value is low. Cards are transferrable.
Two SelfTaps are located in common areas inside and outside the gastro-bar and the other three are located at the head of three six-seater dining tables where guests can enjoy their meals and pour their own pints at the same time. The two drafts hooked up to the SelfTaps are Mac’s Great WhiteCloudy Wheat Beer (New Zealand) and Pure Blonde Premium Lager (Australia).
If you are still not convinced to make a trip down top The Chop House, you must be a vegan.
