A reader threw us another challenge. This time, it was Yan Ting, St Regis Hotel. We booked ourselves the 1-3pm Weekend Brunch, and it was packed to the brim with customers. We were out to make things difficult for the service staff to see if they are really ‘that’ exceptional. Our editor was joined by fellow foodie Jeffery and Joseph, and they ploughed through 34 different dishes. We were dressed in T-shirt and bermudas, looking kind of sloppy as we wanted to see if the staff would judge the customers by what they were wearing.
The food was delicious and presentation reminded me of a media tasting. We had a little fight amongst ourselves as we couldn’t make up our mind what was our favorite dish. We tried to find fault with the dishes but it was hard as we could help but ‘inhaled’ most of the dishes once they left it on our table. But there was no reason for us to stop when its a buffet! We tried to make things a little more difficult for them 1) Can we stay past 3pm? We came at 1.30pm and we don’t have time to try all your dishes! 2) Suggest some nice dishes for us, we want to have a variety and all the speciality! 3) Can I have red cut chilli? 4) Can you top up my tea? Despite running a full house at the restaurant, the service was impeccable. Not fazed by the above questions, Amy, Assistant Manager ordered the dishes for us with ease and took the initiative to advice the kitchen for a smaller portions to allow us to try more dishes. Next she assured us to take our time to finish the food, even if its past 3pm, it would not be a problem. Just how awesome is that! Her team ensured our tea were promptly topped up, new plates were changed when it was filled with bones. I’ll like to see other Chinese restaurant beat that level of service and food quality.
