Birds of A Feather is the new all-day dining, cafe and bar that is the perfect antidote to frenzied, stressed out lives.
The owners of Birds of A Feather hail from Chengdu, where they own Good Wood Coffee, a successful chain of café across Chengdu. The ultimate aim of the eatery is to be a ‘third place’ — a calm and comfortable ‘nest’, with good and positive vibes; where people of like mind, values and tastes come together to ‘roost,’ enjoying each other’s company over food and drinks.
On the menu of Birds of A Feather is superb contemporary Western cuisine with a pronounced Sichuan influence. All-day dining begins with a breakfast spread that includes ‘Cong You Bing’ inspired ‘Spring Onion Arlette,’ croissant, pain au chocolat, and English muffin with ham, egg and cheese.
It then progresses to the Lunch Menu. Diners can look forward to lighter options such as Roasted Chicken & Avocado Salad with Szechuan Pepper; and Charcoal Roasted Romaine Lettuce with fried tofu cheese ball and sesame dressing.
Looking for something heartier and more robust? There’s Grilled Cheese Panini with Sichuan braised pork belly, pickled cabbage and fried potato; Tofu Burger with Mapo Meat Sauce (interpreted from ‘Mapo Tofu’),
Oriental Bolognaise of angel hair pasta, pork ragout, onsen tamago, with a choice of spicy option (interpreted from ‘Zha Jiang Mian’), and Bird’s Signature Burger of charcoal grilled beef patty, foie gras, cheddar, caramelized onion with a chilli soy tapenade inspired by Sichuan ‘Dou Pan Jiang’.
Dinner brings additional enticements such as Hot & Sour Chazuke served with Niigata rice and a spicy pickled mustard green broth, charcoal-grilled barramundi and mentaiko; and Lobster served with pappardelle pasta, tomato lobster sauce and ikura.
Desserts to round of the meal include Poached Pear with citrus, longan and orange caramel espuma; deep-fried Glutinous Rice Cake with passion fruit foam and caramelized banana; and a titillating array of cakes. The bar serves an extensive drinks list from specialty coffees and teas, to fresh juices, smoothies and beer, old world and new world wines, spirits, as well as classic and original cocktails.
Décor is stylish and often quirky; such as overhead lamps shaped like clouds, a hand-crafted wall art-piece of bulbs and jointed copper pipes, a lighting feature composed of real leaves from Chengdu, and actual tree branches complete with faux cockatoos at the entrance. The proud cultures of East and West co-mingle tastefully and without contrivance. The multitude of plants, thoughtful seating and sophisticated use of light create an incredibly lush, relaxing and feel-good atmosphere. The promise of retreat and conviviality embodied in the name ‘Birds of A Feather’ is fulfilled.
