There is nothing more rewarding than discovering a hidden foodie haunt in a neighbourhood that is off the beaten path. And from 15 March to 30 April, JalanJalan.me gives you extra motivation to visit Clementi and sink your teeth into the soft, pillow-like heritage snack from Tan’s Tu Tu Coconut Cake or Fior di Latte gelato with creamy mozzarella from hip addition to Sunset Way, Burnt Cones; head to Chong Pang for tasty nosh from the hawker heroes of Yishun Park Hawker Centre including moreish har geong kai from Ah Tan’s Wings, Japanese-inspired nourishing soup from Seafood Pirates and melt-in-the-mouth-tender mutton from Bismi Briyani; or pick from myriad other choices from Bedok, Ang Mo Kio and Jalan Besar, where many wonderful heartland surprises are in store.

#JalanHuat Through Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Chong Pang, Clementi, Jalan Besar
With the mission of placing less-visited neighbourhoods on the radar of residents, #JalanHuat taps into the gastronomic and wanderlusting inclination of the local population, encouraging them to embark on a discovery of familiar neighbourhoods while eating their way through the hawker gems, local cafes or hipster spots available in each neighbourhood, and in the process be rewarded with attractive prizes whilst supporting local businesses.

Running from 15 March to 30 April, JalanJalan.me invites residents on a ‘treasure hunt’ guided by a constantly updated online itinerary of where to #jalanhuat in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Chong Pang, Clementi and Jalan Besar. They are asked to scan a QR code on-site to enter the contest when indulging in contemporary Asian offerings at Slake, comfort favourites with a luxe touch at Summerhill, delicious flame-grilled meats at Torched and other delicious finds that will be added to the map as the campaign unfolds in the coming weeks.

Multiple entries are accepted and will increase participant’s chances of winning in the Grand Draw, while each individual will only be eligible for the weekly draw once for the duration of the campaign period.

Held from 15 March to 25 April, weekly draw prizes including a SGD150 Tuck Shop app credit that may be redeemed for purchases at Yishun Park Hawker Centre; SGD30 voucher from Chong Pang Nasi Lemak and zero waste grocery bulk food store, Unpackt; and many more will be up for grabs.

The grand draw comprising three top prizes will be open to all participants for the duration of the campaign period and winners will be announced on 1 May 2021. Winners of the second and third prize in the Grand Draw will receive an Apple Watch Series 3 and $188 Grab voucher respectively.

A staycation and heritage trail of Jalan Besar awaits for the top prize winner
The grand prize includes the chance to immerse in the eclectic world of Jalan Besar, steeped in history, colourful in architectural design, and bursting with dining and cultural options.

The lucky winner and a companion will check in to the relaxing respite of a Studio Loft at the newly-relaunched Wanderlust Hotel, housed in a heritage 1920s Art Deco building combining old world charm with all the comforts desired by the modern traveller, the perfect vantage point for guests to begin their exploration of the neighbourhood.

During the stay, they will be treated to a gastronomic itinerary starting at Berseh Food Centre, a veritable playground for those hungry for local fare with vendors such as Joy Kitchen and Multi Food Supply dishing out delicious homemade Laksa and signature salt-baked Chicken respectively. A cleansing and calming brew from Antea Social will help wash down all the food, before they embark on an insider tour of W Rice Wine, a local family business that has been brewing artisanal rice wine for three generations. This will be rounded up with a well-deserved thirst-quenching flight of craft beers at Druggists
