Swag & Sizzle at 243 Cantonment Road might look li Swag & Sizzle at 243 Cantonment Road might look like a regular hawker stall, but the food here could give any mid-range bistro a run for its money. Run by two chefs formerly from L’Entrecôte, this unassuming corner of Tanjong Pagar delivers Western food that’s grounded, confident, and full of heart.

The Hanger Steak is easily the star attraction. At $21.90, it’s cooked to a juicy medium rare, finished with a vibrant chimichurri that lifts the meat without overpowering it. For something crisp and comforting, the Chicken Schnitzel hits the spot. The crumb is light and golden, the meat inside tender, paired with fries and salad for a balanced meal that satisfies without feeling heavy.

Burger fans will find comfort in the Smash Burger, which layers two juicy patties with cheddar, bacon jam, spicy tartare, and pickles for that perfect blend of salty, smoky, and tangy. The pasta options are equally strong, with the Prawn Aglio Olio standing out for its garlicky aroma and firm noodles. If you’re after seafood, the Grilled Garlic Prawns bring freshness and sweetness in every bite, best paired with their crispy fries.

And yes, dessert deserves attention too. The skillet cookie and molten lava cake are both indulgent, warm, and just right to wrap up the meal.

Swag & Sizzle doesn’t try to be fancy. It focuses on flavour, value, and honest cooking done with skill. Go early because popular items sell out fast. This place proves that great Western food doesn’t need fine-dining trimmings, just chefs who care about getting every detail right.

I caught a flight from Kuala Lumpur back to Singap I caught a flight from Kuala Lumpur back to Singapore and didn’t regret heading straight to Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku, Jewel Changi’s latest indulgent destination. At $168++ per adult (minimum two diners per order), guests can indulge in an endless spread of premium Wagyu cuts grilled to perfection over open flames. Each dining session includes a serving of Wa-En’s signature Miyazaki Sirloin, a cut so tender it almost dissolves upon contact. Kids can join the feast for $68++, and those under 90cm dine free, making it a family-friendly indulgence that doesn’t compromise on quality.

The menu extends beyond beef, offering a curated selection of seafood, appetisers, and side dishes that complement the Wagyu experience.

For the uninitiated, Miyazaki Gyu is considered one of Japan’s top three wagyu, alongside Kobe and Matsusaka. Raised in the lush pastures of Kyushu’s Miyazaki Prefecture, these cattle are known for their rich marbling, buttery tenderness, and deep umami flavor. Miyazaki beef has won the Japanese “Wagyu Olympics” several times, a rare feat that cements its reputation as the gold standard of wagyu craftsmanship. Each cut is graded meticulously by Japan’s Meat Grading Association to ensure consistent A4 and A5 quality.

At Wa-En, every piece of A4 and A5 Miyazaki Wagyu, air-flown from Japan, meets the grill with precision. The marbling melts into rich umami with every sear, from tender karubi and chuck roll to the luscious wagyu saikoro cubes. The buffet begins with a one-time serving of Miyazaki Sirloin, the kind of prized cut usually reserved for omakase menus.

The indulgence extends beyond beef, featuring Japanese Snow Crab, sashimi-grade oysters and hotate, salmon and maguro sashimi, and tiger prawns. The elegant 82-seater space balances comfort and sophistication, inviting diners to linger long after the final grill.

BLAXK by ActionCity continues to blur the lines be BLAXK by ActionCity continues to blur the lines between art, design, and spirituality with its latest exhibition, The Not-So-Temple, created by Taiwanese artist Poyun Wang. Held at BLAXK by ActionCity, this immersive showcase transforms the gallery into a contemporary shrine that questions what we worship in a hyper-modern world.

Known for his darkly whimsical sculptures and surreal narratives, Poyun reimagines devotion through the lens of pop culture and consumerism. Within The Not-So-Temple, visitors encounter relic-like figures that feel sacred yet unsettling, merging the spiritual iconography of East Asia with modern symbols of desire and distraction. Each piece reflects Poyun’s signature blend of fine craftsmanship and philosophical edge, inviting visitors to explore where faith, materialism, and art intersect.

The Not-So-Temple marks another chapter in that mission, presenting a dialogue between devotion and design that challenges what it means to be a believer in the modern age.

Venue: BLAXK by ActionCity, Funan Mall, 107 North Bridge Road
Dates: Ongoing through October 2025
