Moving Postcards: Singapore Since 1974, Westlake has built its name on something most places have already lost. Consistency. Passed from founder Lim Tong Law to the second and now third generation, the kitchen has held on to recipes that were never designed to impress, only to work. Madame Claude has always leaned into a certain kind of restraint. It is not loud, not performative, and never trying too hard to impress. Instead, it builds quietly through detail, from the way the room feels to how each drink is composed. The Leica Oskar Barnack Award is 46 editions in and it still carries more weight than almost any other prize in photography. The reason is simple: it pays serious money to serious work. If you are bored of bars where every drink tastes vaguely citrusy, floral and forgettable, The Elephant Room is a good reset. The menu plays with Indian ingredients, spice, savoury notes and nostalgic references in a way that actually makes drinking here interesting again.
