9 February 2013, Singapore – Singapore Lyric Opera presents, in association with Golden Village, CARMEN the second opera in the Paris Opera 2013 season.
Carmen, written by the French composer Georges Bizet is based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Merimee; the opera was first performed in Paris, on 3 March 1875. During the original run, Bizet died suddenly, and thus knew nothing of the opera’s later celebrity. Nevertheless, what Bizet had brought to the stage was a deadly passion, violently revealed and crushed by the Spanish sun.
The new production by the Paris Opera was performed live at the Opéra Bastille on Thursday December 13, 2012. Conducted by Philippe Jordan, and Directed by Yves Beaunesne, this production of Carmen stars Austrian tenor Nikolai Schukoff as Don Jose, and Italian soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci in the title role of Carmen.
Tickets will be on sale on Friday, 8 February for the performance on Thursday 28 February 7.15pm at GV Grand – Great World City. The performance is preceded by a short introduction by the Singapore Lyric Opera. Tickets are available from the GV website (www.gv.com.sg) or over the box office counter at GV Grand.
