10 June 2013, Singapore – We got an email from a reader asking us to check out Five & Dime and if its good. The team woke up early for brunch on Saturday to check out the place. We were glad we made a reservation as it was getting crowded at around 11am.
The cosy interior seems perfect for a laid back brunch with a bunch of friends. We did the usual trick of asking them to recommend us their specialty. Take a look at what we ordered.
Big Breakie – It was pretty standard with 2 sausages and scrambled eggs. Thumbs up for obliging when I insisted on an egg white omelette. It was pretty decent but it sure didn’t make me go “Wow! I’m gonna come back for this!”
Mentaiko Pasta – This pasta taste way better than it looks. Plain looking yes, but it was mind blowingly awesome. Salty savoury mentaiko paired with al dente pasta. We have a winner Houston.
Salmon Rocket Salad – Pop the chunky salmon wraps in your mouth and feel it disintegrate into oral orgasm. I love this dish and hey, this is healthy option for those on diet.
Buttermilk Pancakes – Not a big fan of their pancakes and its pretty expensive for 2 bacon and some fruits on fluffy pancakes. Stack 2 McDonalds Hotcakes for the same effect.
No brunch is complete without desserts.
Bourbon Caramel with Banana Cake + Ice cream – Warm moist banana cake paired with bourbon caramel, mmmmm so good you won’t stop after your first bite. Avoid this dish of you are on diet and do add Ice cream to the cake. Sinfully delicious.
This is what 2 of our interns have to say about Five & Dime.
Jethro: Nice ambience and food is great. I feel that the price is pretty reasonable too.
Darren: Slightly overpriced but compensated with great service. Good food + chill out ambience, I’ll give this place a thumbs up!
So, readers, why don’t you head down and try the other stuff on the menu. Let us know what you think about this place. Meanwhile, head down and chow down!
Note: This is an incognito tasting. (Cost of the meal is paid by the reviewer)
