What do you do when you have an really early flight, at 7am the next day? Unfortunately, you stay all the way in Jurong West. The thought of waking up early, and probably skipping breakfast to rush to the airport can be a nightmare. What if you are stuck in the airport for a 12 hour transit? Delayed flight?

The Metropolitant team checked out the Crowne Plaza Changi Aiport when we had to fly to Tokyo on a morning flight. Instead of catching only 3-4 hours of sleep, we were able to have a good sleep and yes, soak up in the tub before the long flight tomorrow. The hotel is designed around a theme of Contemporary Asia, with a focus on two themes – tropical plants and textiles.

At the ground level, the smooth flowing walls embrace and envelop the guest in warm tones of timber. The link bridge from Changi Airport is a timber screen wall with a staggered pattern based on the Indonesian Ikat fabrics. The lobby lounge faces a rainforest garden and is decorated with tropical orchids. The furniture in the lobby lounge is derived from tropical fruits, both in colour and form. From everywhere in the public areas there is contact with lush gardens – including surprising views upwards to rainforest trees through a water covered skylight.

The hotel features a 24-hour fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool and not forgetting spa treatment rooms when you await your next connecting flight. Hungry? Choose from their selection of restaurants which includes the award-winning Azur restaurant. Want to catch the next soccer match before you head off to bed? Simply head down to bar’75,  a sports and casual bar.

The guest rooms have a theme of calm nature, as a soothing respite from the strain and artificial environment of travel. The rooms feature natural light in the bathrooms, baths with a view, huge windows and a very large desks and layout spaces. The rooms function equally as a space to rest and recuperate or as a working space for the travelling executive. The carpet is designed as an abstraction of light sparkling through leaves and the green and oak tones are continued throughout. An artwork wall of Plumier flowers on the bathroom glass creates impact in the room.
