Dragon Boat Festival Goodies From Goodwood Park Hotel

Before we can digest the Durian delights from Goodwood Park Hotel, they are celebrating the annual Dragon Boat Festival with new and decadent savory pork dumplings. These will be available alongside returning favorites of Steamed ‘Kee Zhang’ with D24 Durian Dip and ‘Hae Bee Hiam’ Dumpling.

Braised Pork Belly with Black Garlic Dumpling 黑蒜卤肉粽 $14.75 nett per piece, takeaway | $13.80++ per piece, dine-in

A delightfully moreish creation, pork belly is first deep-fried, then lovingly slow-cooked in braising liquid for three hours before it is combined with intensely-flavoured Japan-imported black garlic; known to be rich in antioxidants, as well as a chestnut, salted egg yolk and glutinous rice. After steaming for four hours, the result is a robust-tasting dumpling with an extra smoky-sweet dimension.

Braised Kurobuta Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables Dumpling 梅香黑猪扣肉粽 $12.65 nett per piece, takeaway | $11.80++ per piece, dine-in

Prime porcine is deep-fried then braised with a secret blend of spices, while preserved vegetables are stir-fried to impart a lovely wok fragrance. These ingredients are then combined with glutinous rice, salted egg yolk and a chestnut, and steamed for four hours to render a dumpling brimming with familiar homemade flavors and a luxurious touch.

These present the winning combination of clean-tasting dumplings and a heavenly homemade D24 durian dip. The luscious accompaniment adds a kingly touch to this homely treat.

‘Hae Bee Hiam’ Dumpling (Dried Shrimp Sambal Dumpling) 虾米香粽 $7.70 nett per piece, takeaway | $7.20++, dine-in

Inspired by the piquant local condiment of dried shrimp sambal, the ‘hae bee hiam’ dumpling comprising a mix of white and black glutinous rice reveals a heady, tantalising and slightly sweet homemade rempah or spice paste fried with ground dried shrimp; a simple and pleasing pairing that is both comforting and satisfying.
