From 17 October to 7 November 2015, helmed by Republic Polytechnic students, Reflections would present 21 events showcasing local acts, collaborations and exhibitions that aim to bring the audience on a journey through recollections of their past and interactions with the people.
This year’s festival has several highlights which include ‘Music, Fun and Friends’ that would be performed by Singapore’s very own MICappella. It would be an evening filled with harmonious entertainment as they bring back their alumni members, like Faith Foon from Final 1 Fame, in celebration of the friendships that were formed through sharing of common passion for music.
Another musical performance to look out for would be World Drum Night III. The show would feature drummers from ITE College West, Central and East, ITE College West and Central Dikir Barat Percussionists, Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Daiko Drummers and Dikir Barat Group, Singapore Polytechnic Taiko Drums, Republic Polytechnic’s Beats Encore, guest performers Nadi Singapura and ZingO Festival Drums. World Drum Night III would have everyone drumming their fingers and stomping their feet.
As Reflections is a community arts festival, the programmes were carefully thought of to cater to the needs of every age group and their preferences. For the music buff, there is Symphonie de Republique VIII presented by Republic Polytechnic’s Wind Symphony. For a classical night out to Kopi Sessions, the audience would be wowed by bands like Caracal for a stripped down acoustic set.
Several of the works that would be presented captures the cultural nuances and context of Singapore; Read with Me presented by Operation Theatre is a coming of age play that discusses social issues that are directly relevant to contemporary living; Reminiscence is a double bill of two stories, “Kurun Yang Hilang” and “Shalini”, presented in Malay and Tamil, which explores Singapore’s rich heritage and history.
Happening from 17 October to 7 November this year, with the various performances, workshops and exhibitions; Reflections 2015 has something special for everyone!
