Brazilian eco-friendly plastic shoe label, Melissa unveiled its new Spring Summer 2016 collection – Wanna be Carioca, to the beats of Rio de Janeiro, at an exclusive media and VIP guests poolside party at Bar Canary, Grand Park Orchard last Friday.
Inspired by the culture-rich neighbourhoods, sandy beaches and musical lifestyle of Rio city, the bright and cheery collection brings together a selection of pool-friendly sandals, comfortable slip-ons, and trendy open toed heels, in various vibrant and vivid colours.
Also joining the Melissa family is an all-new range, Mel – Dreamed by Melissa, made for Melissa fans aged 4 to 9 years of age. The collection combines classic designs from Melissa to fit smaller and younger feet, from chunky heeled sandals to feminine ballet flats, made in an array of candy colours.
Adorned with Tiki décor and fairy lights, the pool deck at Bar Canary was transformed into a seafront party with colourful beach chairs and fun, quirky beach props, together with fresh coconuts to celebrate the collection launch, while key styles from the collection displayed in beach huts around the poolside.
Guests were further treated to a selection of h’orderves such as lemon-coated prawns, smoked salmon and more, along with two specially concocted cocktails for the event, incorporating liqeurs that are signature to Brazil and South America to emulate an authentic Rio vibe; Endless Summer – a combination of Pisco shaken with fresh pineapple, ginger, lime and lychee liqueur, and Liquid Sunshine, a beverage of passionfruit with lemon juice, spiced syrup and Cachaca.
Local band, INDIGO set the ambience for the evening with their authentic Brazilian-samba styled performance from the 60’s. DJ Linda Hao helmed the decks for the night with her upbeat tracks and mixes.
Familiar faces spotted at the event were several well-known personalities such as Narelle Kheng, the it-girl and bassist of Singapore’s hottest band, The Sam Willows, yoga guru Alicia Pan, former MTV Veejay May Wan, and ONE FM 91.3 radio DJ Desiree Lai.
The ‘Wanna Be Carioca’ Spring Summer 2016 collection will be available at all MDREAMS stores and selected retailers from December 2015 onwards.
Melissa shoes are priced between SGD95 and SGD255 (with the exception of the Sebastian Errazuriz Limited Edition Capsule Collection which retails at SGD590, and the J. Maskrey collection which retails up to SGD600). Mel Dreamed by Melissa shoes range from SGD85 and SGD150. Mini Melissa shoes range from SGD85 to SGD135.
