The Metropolitant team embarks on a series of staycations to find our which of the local hotels you should stay when you want to be a tourist in your own country, or simply to spend a night away from home. We checked into Studio M located near Robertson Quay after we asked our friends where we should check out next. (This is not a sponsored post)
We liked the location as it was near to an MRT station, yet it didn’t have the hustle and bustle of city hotels. Unlike the big chain hotels, the rooms are really affordable. We snagged ourselves a Studio Loft room for less than $200.
Even though it was a mere 22 sqm, the 3m long window and the 2 level room made it felt like it was much bigger. We used the space to do a quick photoshoot and the 4 of us had no problems moving around the hotel room. This would not even be possible for any other hotel rooms priced below $200.
We celebrated the end of our shoot with some drinks and Memo located on the ground floor offers Prosecco below $50. Yes, it’s a bargain. There are many good restaurants around the area too. Take the opportunity to check out Aburiya Tei and The Red House, great food and service.
After a tiring day, we had a fantastic rest and headed to Ta.ké for our breakfast. When we arrived at 10 am, there was a long queue just to get seated. Feeling disgruntled, I expected horrific service and empty trays when I finally get seated. I was wrong, the trays were promptly replenished by the tireless staff and the host that seated us was brimming with professionalism. She addressed us by our names after getting our room number and assured us of seats once it’s available. Now that’s real hospitality.
It was not an easy feat handling so many hungry guests and they have been queuing for 10-20mins just for seats. She assured the other guest that even if breakfast timing was over, they would provide food for them. That won me over.
What we felt: If you are looking for a quiet time with someone you love, or just a short getaway, this hotel your choice. Great value for money and efficient service. Check in and out was smooth and the best part was, it’s below $200 if you book via most websites (they have special deals most of the time). Why bother with big hotel chains when Studio M delivers great rooms and the essentials to you. This is a great option if you need to have some private time with your lover yet, refuse to check into a love motel.
Stay tuned as we are going incognito to check out more hotels and see how they really fare to the locals!
