Seven people, all lacking, searching and yearning. Each living with loss – either physical or emotional – and struggling to search for something more valuable within a barter shop. Could the answer to happiness and satisfaction be just an easy transaction?
This will be playwright Jiang Daini’s second musical after the success of Innamorati.
After the success of Innamorati (唯一) in 2014, is Innamorati Two (唯二), a spirited Mandarin musical written with heart and honesty, and proudly presented by established local bilingual theatre company Toy Factory Productions.
While bearing the same title – which evokes a sense of love and passion – Innamorati Two is premised on a different but no less compelling storyline from Innamorati. It also shares the same theme about the human spirit finding strength in adversity, perfection in imperfection, and passion for life. At the helm is the inimitable Goh Boon Teck, Chief Artistic Director of Toy Factory Productions, who brings immeasurable empathy and soul into every production he directs.
Self-penned and composed songs by the entire cast
This original work finds a powerhouse ensemble cast of seven young and immensely multi-talented actors who have also penned original songs that look set to tug at the heartstrings of audiences – a bold first move for Singaporean theatre. In particular, for artistes Jing Wong (黄靖伦), Ann Lek (陆佩银) and Sunny Yang (杨梓艺), this would be their first time writing and composing music. The musical direction is largely inspired by cosmopolitan-indie-pop influences, and mentoring the cast in this process is renowned Music Director Elaine Chan, whose wealth of experience will no doubt be instrumental in shaping the melodic nuances.
Set to ignite the stage of Drama Centre Theatre from 22 September to 2 October 2016, Innamorati Two is a brilliant tour de force of Mandarin theatre, blending memorable characters, a touching storyline, inspirational singing and atmospheric set design.
