Ubud Tourist Map

Take a break from the usual Seminyak, Jimbaran, Kuta and Denpasar. Head down to Ubud. The town of Ubud, in the uplands of Bali, Indonesia, is known as a center for traditional crafts and dance. The surrounding Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes. Ancient holy sites include the intricately carved Goa Gajah (“Elephant Cave”) and Gunung Kawi, with its rock-cut shrines.

Art museums such as the Neka and the Agung Rai display traditional and contemporary works by local and expatriate artists. Traditional Balinese dance performances take place in the Royal Palace courtyard. At the Ubud Monkey Forest nature reserve and temple complex, macaques play amid jungle vines and overgrown Hindu monuments. Just south are craft villages including Mas, known for wood carvings, Celuk, for jewelry, and Batubulan, for stone carvings.
