Unlimited Woodfire Buffet at Under Der Linden Alo Unlimited Woodfire Buffet at Under Der Linden

Along the quiet, leafy stretch of Portsdown Road, Under Der Linden has earned a reputation as a hidden sanctuary. Known for its botanical charm, twinkling lights, and pet-friendly spaces, it has become a destination for romantic dinners, gatherings with friends, and even intimate weddings. This September, the restaurant introduces something new. Starting 15 September, diners can enjoy an Unlimited Woodfire Buffet for $49++ per person.

The highlight of the buffet is its premium selection of meats cooked over open flames. Koji-Aged Ribeye, Iberico Pork Jowl, and Smoked Pork Spare Ribs are prepared with care before being finished on the woodfire grill. The result is smoky, tender, and deeply flavourful. The buffet is unlimited within a 90-minute seating, so diners are welcome to return for as many portions as they like.

The spread also includes a range of sides. Mushroom soup, truffle mash, sourdough, and fries provide comforting classics, while crispy bacon with brussels sprouts adds a savoury twist. This balance ensures that the buffet feels complete rather than one-dimensional.

For pet owners, the restaurant offers dedicated pet-friendly spaces, including an air-conditioned room and a gated outdoor play area. Pet treats and even a photo booth with props make this a place where both people and pets are welcome.

At $49++ per person, the Unlimited Woodfire Buffet offers value for those who enjoy quality meats prepared over fire. Combined with the unique setting, it is a dining experience that stands out in Singapore’s crowded food scene.

Singaporeans know Hainanese chicken rice as a nati Singaporeans know Hainanese chicken rice as a national staple, but few have tried the original Wenchang chicken that inspired it. At Mr Hainan in VivoCity (#02-116, 1 HarbourFront Walk), diners can finally taste the roots of this iconic dish, brought directly from Hainan, China.

The star of the menu is the Wenchang Chicken, prepared with chickens raised for over 180 days on a natural diet. The result is meat that is firm, springy, and deeply savoury. Served with minimal seasoning, it highlights the quality of the bird itself, offering a glimpse into the heritage behind Singapore’s beloved chicken rice.

Seafood is another strong suit. The steamed pomfret topped with garlic and preserved vegetables carries a clean, balanced flavour, while the lotus leaf grilled fish adds smokiness and depth. These dishes lean on freshness rather than heavy sauces, staying true to the island province’s coastal traditions.

For something heartier, the braised lamb with potatoes and peppers is rustic and robust, best shared among a group. Meanwhile, the winter melon soup with glass noodles delivers subtle sweetness and comfort, a reminder of Hainan’s home-style cooking. Even the vegetable stir-fries, like the mixed vermicelli with cabbage and wood ear mushrooms, are executed with care and balance.

Mr Hainan brings a taste of Hainan’s heritage to Singapore and reminds us that some of our most familiar dishes began their journey far beyond our shores.

Yan Huo is not just about food. Step inside and th Yan Huo is not just about food. Step inside and the interior immediately sets the tone. The lighting is warm, the vintage Chinese décor feels nostalgic yet modern, and the overall design makes every corner Instagram-ready. It is the kind of dining room where you want to linger, take photos, and soak in the atmosphere before the food even arrives.

On the table, the food is straightforward and confidently prepared. The marinated cherry tomatoes are peeled, chilled, and topped with garlic crumbs. They are refreshing, balanced, and the right way to open the meal.

The braised prawns, cooked with bay leaf and dried chilli, bring sweetness from the seafood with just a hint of spice. The prawns are meaty and satisfying, paired best with a bowl of rice.

The claypot fish soup is a standout for comfort. A golden broth with Napa cabbage, tofu, and fish fillets that stay tender without falling apart. Light yet flavourful, it is a dish that works well in between the stronger flavours.

The Sichuan mala chicken is the crowd pleaser. Crispy fried chicken pieces tossed with a generous amount of dried chillies, peppercorns, peanuts, and sesame. It is spicy, numbing, and addictive, the kind of dish that keeps chopsticks moving.

Balancing that intensity is the stir-fried cabbage with cured pork. The smokiness of the pork and the sweetness of charred cabbage make this a simple but essential dish.

Together with floral and colourful cocktails, Yan Huo delivers an experience that is both about taste and aesthetics. The dishes are bold, the setting is photogenic, and the energy feels made for nights out with friends or a date that impresses.

KFC has always known that fried chicken is more th KFC has always known that fried chicken is more than food. It is an experience. The crunch, the aroma of 11 herbs and spices, and the way everyone eats it differently. Some save the skin for last. Others flood it with chilli. This September, KFC Singapore is celebrating those rituals with its new campaign, “We Let Chicken Be Chicken, So You Can Be You.”

The classics now come with fresh twists. Alongside the beloved Original Recipe Chicken, fans can sink their teeth into the all-new Original Recipe Burger, stacked with a juicy marinated fillet, crunchy lettuce and creamy mayo in a sesame bun. For a boneless option, the Original Recipe Tenders deliver hand-breaded, juicy strips perfect for dipping and sharing.

The iconic KFC Bucket also returns on 3 September, relaunched with a limited-edition design created with streetwear designer Amos Ananda. It is more than dinner. It is nostalgia, culture and a reason to gather around the table.

From 12 to 26 September, KFC invites fans to join the #HowDoYouKFC contest. Show off your fried chicken ritual on social media. Whether you peel, dunk or scoop, you could win one year of KFC meals worth over $3,600. The winning order could even make its way into a limited-time menu.

To make it easier, the Toa Payoh outlet will feature a cosy recording space for guests to capture their finger lickin’ good style.

This month, let chicken be chicken and let yourself be you.

Sofubi, short for sofuto biniiru (soft vinyl), has Sofubi, short for sofuto biniiru (soft vinyl), has become one of the most hyped categories in the art toy world. Collectors chase them in raffle, pay inflated resale prices, and post them on Instagram as if they were holy relics. But behind the glossy photos and FOMO culture, it is time to ask a harder question: is sofubi really worth it?

The word “sofubi” used to mean Japanese craft. Now it is slapped on anything soft vinyl just to trick buyers into thinking they are getting an artisanal piece. Instagram feeds are full of collectors flexing glitter variants of the same kaiju mold as if they discovered the Mona Lisa. In reality you are showing off bath toy material packaged as prestige.

Respect the history of Japanese makers, sure. But stop hyping overpriced plastic just because it sold out in a raffle. Buy it because you love the design, not because you think owning it makes you elite.

There is also a problem of design stagnation. How many repaints of the same kaiju sculpt do collectors really need? Glitter versions, clear versions, neon versions, the cycle continues with the same molds. Add in the artificial scarcity of 10-piece raffle runs and you have the perfect recipe for flipper culture. Retail prices of $100 to $200 quickly turn into $500 or more on the resale market. Some Anraku Ansaku and KAWS vinyls now push into the thousands.

None of this makes sofubi worthless. The culture and artistry behind authentic Japanese-made pieces deserve recognition. But collectors should strip away the marketing and see sofubi for what it is: soft vinyl toys, not untouchable treasures. Buy them if you love them, not because hype tells you to.

If you are a collector, please don’t be ignorant. Don’t compare Chinese factory vinyl to sofubi. It’s an insult to the Japanese art.
