Birkenstock has unveiled WEAVE, a new concept stor Birkenstock has unveiled WEAVE, a new concept store at Takashimaya S.C., offering more than just footwear. Designed to reflect the brand’s focus on craft and materiality, the space features natural textures, raw finishes, and a stripped-back aesthetic that echoes Birkenstock’s German roots. It’s part gallery, part retail experience.

To mark the launch, a public pop-up showcase runs from 30 August to 8 September 2025 at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. Visitors can explore Birkenstock’s evolving design direction, including the debut of the Zurich Tech Pack — a rework of the classic sandal in full black, updated with tech nylon and hardware detailing. It’s minimal but deliberate. Built for city life.

The name WEAVE references more than shoemaking. It reflects the cultural intersections of Singapore — where tradition meets innovation, and style is understated but intentional.

This is Birkenstock moving forward, while staying rooted in function and form.

Two new dining destinations have arrived at Resort Two new dining destinations have arrived at Resorts World Sentosa, bringing with them the hallmark of JUMBO Group’s culinary legacy. JUMBO Premium reimagines Singapore’s favourite seafood experience with refined interpretations, while Xing Yue Xuan introduces a modern Chinese dining concept designed for indulgent gatherings.

We’ve tried their signature highlights that underline the craftsmanship behind both brands. From JUMBO Premium’s side, the Red Ruby Dumplings with Fresh Mushrooms and Black Truffle Sauce (3pc) delivered earthy depth with delicate folds, while the Pan Fried Iberico Buns (3pc) impressed with their juicy, flavour-rich filling. Not to be missed were the Chilli Crab Puffs (3pc), a playful homage to the classic chilli crab, elevated into a crisp pastry bite.

At Xing Yue Xuan, tradition met innovation in dishes like the Double-Boiled Fish Maw & Kampung Chicken Soup, brimming with rich collagen and homely comfort. The Dong Po Pork Belly in Hakka Style offered melt-in-mouth indulgence, while the Flambéed Drunken Live Prawns delivered theatre and flavour in equal measure. For crab lovers, the Fuss-Free Crab in Signature Black Pepper (Half Crab) balanced convenience with the unmistakable punch of JUMBO’s black pepper recipe.

Luxury finds expression in the Whole 3-Head Abalone & Sea Cucumber in Fragrant Rice, a dish layered with premium textures and umami, while the Classic Chinese Duo Pastry Platter paid tribute to heritage desserts.

Both concepts celebrate JUMBO Group’s commitment to innovation while staying true to its roots as a pioneer of Singapore seafood dining.

*Swipe to see the figurines I finally met Lao Li *Swipe to see the figurines

I finally met Lao Liu @mr.bone_toys , the designer behind Mr Bone, thanks to Defigure Lab @defigurelab . Walking away with my first signed figure felt like holding a piece of history in the art toy world.

Mr Bone’s journey began in June 2012 as a four-panel comic. The character was born in a zombie-filled setting, a skeleton embodying wit and resilience. The simple idea quickly gained traction with fans who connected with its offbeat humor and the cheeky outlook Mr Bone brought to darker themes.

By January 2018, a team came together to expand on the story. They built out the lore, added depth, and evolved Mr Bone from a comic strip into a recognizable intellectual property. At the center of this development is My Own Culture, the studio that has kept the spirit of the comic alive while shaping it into a collectible icon. The toys themselves are designed by Lao Liu, who has translated the character from comic form into striking collectible figures that capture both attitude and detail. The combination of storytelling, rarity, and creative design has made Mr Bone a fixture in the art toy space.

Getting my first figure signed closed the loop for me. What started as a comic in 2012 has matured into a cultural collectible that blends storytelling with artistry. Mr Bone is more than a toy. It is a character that has grown with its fans and continues to evolve with every release.

Step into the wild after dark at Night Safari and Step into the wild after dark at Night Safari and meet its newest stars. Four Tasmanian devils have arrived in Singapore, making this one of only two places in Asia where you can come face to face with these endangered icons. Named Cogsworth, Lumière, Scuttle, and Cuttlefish, each devil carries its own quirks, from Cuttlefish’s distinct white tail marking to Cogsworth’s all-black coat and bold curiosity.

Beyond their charm, these devils represent something bigger. They are part of a global effort to fight devil facial tumour disease, a contagious cancer threatening wild populations. Partnering with Australia’s Save the Tasmanian Devil Programme and Aussie Ark, Mandai Wildlife Group is helping to protect the species by building healthy, cancer-free populations under human care. The arrival of these four is a rare moment, as such transfers are carefully coordinated and few around the world ever see them outside Tasmania.

At Night Safari, they live in two specially designed enclosures that mimic the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, complete with climate-controlled dens, rocky outcrops, and pools. Visitors can see the devils rotate between spaces, keeping them enriched and active. The Tasmanian Devil Trail also introduces you to other fascinating nocturnal creatures such as the kiwi, sugar glider, and woylie, making this one of the most unique night-time wildlife experiences anywhere.

Chef Matsubayashi Masato spent over 15 years leadi Chef Matsubayashi Masato spent over 15 years leading the kitchen at Ma Maison before setting up Shin Katsu in July 2025. His time abroad in Spain and across Asia honed his sense of balance in flavour and texture, but it’s his discipline in execution that stands out. Every cutlet is coated in panko crumbs and fried to a crisp that shatters without a hint of oiliness. Inside, premium pork—whether Hungarian Mangalica or U.S. Kurobuta—remains tender, with the kind of juiciness that can only come from experience and restraint.

The rice is a quiet star. Charcoal-cooked under pressure, it is glossy and smoky, its texture standing firm beside crisp tonkatsu.

In between, the wings, fries and appetizers occupy the spotlight briefly, crisp and seasoned just right. The desserts round things off with comfort rather than fanfare, letting you leave satisfied without feeling over-indulged.

Somewhere between that snap of panko and the glow of charcoal rice, it became clear. This is a high water mark for katsu in Singapore.
