11 November 2012, Singapore – Along with a good friend, we decided to drop by Ambush to check out their offerings. We got there at around 8.30pm and the restaurant was about half full. After wandering into the restaurant, I was seated and offered ice water. That’s a good start. After 5 minutes, I decided to raise my hand to get some attention for my order, only to be ignored for a good 5 minutes in a half filled restaurant. Ok, maybe settling the bills and topping up ice water was more important than us trying to place our order.
The Herb and Parmesan Crusted Mushroom ($10.80) was the first item we ordered. Mushroom was flavourful and the crunchy crust gave it an extra oomph. My only complain was it was a tad too dry. The Cheese Puff smelt heavenly, but the taste and texture fell short of expectations. It was crumbly and dry, definitely was not what I was expecting from a Cheese Puff.
Next, we ordered the escargot ($7.80). The escargot were done pretty nicely and not overcooked. Nicely salted and it was the best dish so far. Presentation had room for improvement, but it was delectable. However, I’d still prefer the cheaper alternative at Saizeriya that taste equally good.
After the escargot, we ordered the 2 sausages combo set, Sausage Plate ($12.80) that comes with your choice of starch, rosti, mash potatoes, fries or pasta. We chose the rosti and we found it a tad too oily. The sausages were oh so juicy and we had no complains about them. You really can’t screw up frying sausages I guess.
Last but not least, we ordered the Aglio Olio Spaghetti, which they forgot. I asked a lady about my order, and after acknowledging me, she continued to top up ice water for the nearby tables. I asked another waiter and he informed me that they forgot my order. So I was left pretty hungry and disappointed after my dinner at Ambush.
No, I don’t think I will be returning to Ambush in the near future, but their prime location and affordable price will be enough to bring in the crowd. Think Pastamania.
Ambush is located on the 4 floor of Plaza Singapura’s new wing.
