SINGAPOREʼS ECLECTIC NEW ABODE, ETTA

Etta is housed on the penthouse level of the infamous industrial building at 66 Kampong Bugis, Etta features an open layout and original design elements, brimming with character, that turns the typical event venue aesthetic on its head. By invite only, Etta is an ode to great taste, understated elegance and peculiarity – the perfect space for sharing extraordinary moments with your nearest and dearest.

Etta, literally translating to the keeper of the hearth or ruler of the home, pays homage to Ruth Etta Collins; an inimitable lady and grandmother to restaurateur Gibran Baydoun. Like its namesake, the style of the space emulates Baydounʼs dynamic and spirited grandmother, a powerhouse of a lady. Added to being the first Black woman to graduate from her university, Collins also earned a Masterʼs Degree while raising six children on her own.

“Etta is the embodiment of creativity. It is an all-encompassing space that allows you to have a bite, share some tipples and let your hair down and dance to live music. Under its eccentric and unconventional charm, itʼs essentially a place that makes you feel at home,” says Gibran Baydoun, founder of Thatʼs Proper Hospitality which also includes other BYGB hotspots Lucali BYGB – located just a few floors below, Corduroy Palace and Proper Slice BYGB.

As with all BYGB venues, art adorns the walls and shelves, adding style and spirit to Etta. The artist in residence is creative wunderkind Clelia Montali, a New York born-and-raised multi-hyphenate whoʼs daughter to a ballet dancer and photographer. AȦer receiving an MBA from Sorbonne university and having powered Chanelʼs e-commerce strategy for 6 years in Paris, she moved back to the streets of New York to pursue her passion for photography, writing and acting. Her current projects include a series of self portraits, painted vases, and a T-shirt line driven by her motto – exploring the human potential.

While the menu at Etta is anchored by a raw bar, serving crudos, sushi and other raw bites to the dining room, the menu for private events are open to a world of possibilities. Home to events of every kind, all events at Etta can be fully customised, from the menu right down to the entertainment. The minimum spend for a lunch event is at S$1,500 whilst dinners are at a minimum spend ofS$4,000 on Sundays to Thursdays, and S$10,000 events on Fridays to Saturdays.

Whether it be a private birthday bay for your swinging sixties, an exclusive blind tasting session, or just a night out to party it up with live music, no stone is leȦ unturned to cater to your wildest fantasies. Etta has already proven to be an ideal spot for product launches, live music events or a chic private dinner that becomes a party that you rather not have at home. Etta is helmed by the wider BYGB family which includes all their timelessly electric concept spaces Corduroy Palace, Lucali BYGB and Proper Slice BYGB which are also available for events that promise delectable dishes and a damn good time.
