Singapore has seen its fair share of animal obsessions, but this one feels different. There is something disarmingly charming about capybaras, the world’s largest rodent. Slow, round, almost permanently zen, they have somehow become an unlikely global icon of calm.
This April, River Wonders is leaning into that obsession in a big way. From 3 April to 3 May 2026, the park will host It’s a Capy Celebration, a month-long event built around a milestone that will melt even the most jaded city dweller. The capybara pup born to parents Muniek and Luna is turning 100 days old, and the park is turning that moment into an entire experience.
Meet the Capybara Family Up Close
The star attraction is the new male pup, now just over three months old, living with his parents at Amazonia Encounters. During scheduled enrichment sessions, guests can watch the capybaras interact with special treats, including ice cakes and woven fire hose reels stuffed with food. Keepers will also be present to share how the animals are cared for and what makes these gentle giants so fascinating.
The Capy Crew Trail and Fan Rewards
Visitors can take part in the Capy Crew Trail, where they pick up a Capy Fan Card and complete checkpoints across the park. Those who finish the trail will be rewarded with a limited-edition capybara phone strap and a refreshing Ribena slushie. It is simple, but clever enough to get both kids and adults involved.

Social Contest With Real Rewards

For guests who love content creation, there is a social media contest that actually feels worth entering. Post your best photo or video of the capybaras on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, share which capybara is your favourite, and you could be one of six winners to receive:
• Admission to River Wonders
• A Capybara Zookeeper for a Day experience
• A Hello from the Wild: Capybara interaction
That is not your typical “free tote bag” giveaway.
More Than Just Capybaras
The celebration is not limited to one exhibit. Guests can also spot other members of the capybara crew such as Lester and Dexter during the Once Upon a River presentation and on the Amazon River Quest boat ride. And yes, there will be capybara-themed merchandise and even capybara ice cream available for those who want to fully lean into the theme.

A Reminder That This Is Conservation, Not Just Cute Content
Behind the lighthearted branding is something more serious. River Wonders houses over 11,000 animals across nearly 260 species, many of which depend on fragile freshwater ecosystems. As part of the broader work by Mandai Wildlife Group, the park contributes to conservation efforts across Southeast Asia, working on biodiversity protection, sustainable living solutions, and threatened species preservation.
So while the capybaras might be the headline act, the bigger picture is a quiet push to get people to care about freshwater habitats and the wildlife that depends on them.
